One Month Supply of Regular Eaten Foods

An EXAMPLE of a one month supply for one person based on the minimum 1600 calorie recommendations in the food pyramid would be as follows: Those foods marked with an * are considered Basics or shelf stable foods.

  • 18 oz. box of oatmeal* 1 lb. of rice*
  • 20 oz. package of pasta* 5 lbs. flour*
  • 1 lb. popcorn* 34 cans (15 oz.) vegetables
  • 26 cans (15 oz.) fruit 2 lbs. cheese
  • 4 (12 oz.) cans evaporated milk* 3.2 lbs powdered milk (powder to make 4 gallons)*
  • 1 jar of peanut butter* 4 (6 oz.) cans tuna
  • 4 (5 oz.) cans chicken 4 (5 oz.) cans ham
  • 8 (15 oz.) cans cooked dry beans* 1 quart oil or shortening*
  • 1 lb. nuts 5 lbs. sugar/honey*
  • ¼ lb. of salt (4 oz.)*

 1 MONTH SUPPLY OF BASIC (SHELF STABLE) FOODS

 Shelf stable foods are also called the BASICS. An EXAMPLE of a ONE month supply of the Basics would be as follows:

  • 1 can (6 lbs.) wheat 1 can (6 lbs.) rice
  • 1 can (3 lbs.) oats 1 can (3 lbs) macaroni
  • 1 can (4 lbs.) non-fat dry milk 1 can (5 lbs.) beans

Plus….

  • 5 lbs. flour 5 lbs. sugar
  • 1 box of salt 1 quart of oil or shortening.

A STARTER KIT can be purchased for $20.25 and consists of

  • 2 cans (6 lbs. ea.) wheat 2 cans (6 lbs. ea.) rice
  • 1 can (3 lbs.) oats 1 can ( 5 lbs.) pinto beans.

To this you would want to add:

  • 5 lbs. flour 5 lbs. sugar
  • Salt 1 quart cooking oil or shortening (shortening stores longer and can be melted and used for oil)
