A Great Patriot and Friend Passed

Earl James Schaad
April 8, 1926 – November, 25th 2023

Earl James Schaad, son of God, died on Nov. 25, at the age of 97, surrounded by his family in his home. Born April 8, 1926, to the late John and Philomena (Strahler) Schaad, Earl and his siblings were raised during the Depression by their widowed mother when Earl was 2.

Earl graduated from Windsor High School, Stockport. Upon graduation, he was drafted into the US Army and proudly served his country during WWII, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

Upon his return home, Earl met the love of this life, Dorothy Anne Schmidt. They married in 1948 and had 14 children.

Earl loved the Lord, family, friends, and country, and was passionate about the land and the role of the farmer, and his responsibility for providing our nation with the God-given resources we have under our feet. He lived out what he believed in: prayer, righteousness, truth, integrity, dignity of hard work, and the sanctity of life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy of 64 years, Michael (son), Joshua Stephen Schaad (grandson), Michael Plummer & Ron Kimbrel (sons-in-law). Brothers: Louis, John (Margaret) & Donald (Barbara). Sisters: Mildred (Harold) Offenberger, Mary Margaret (Bernard Schlicher), Eloise (Robert) Delaney, and Sister Joseph Aloysius (Helen).

Earl is survived by Carol Patterson (sister-in-law), his children: Christopher, Allana (John) Salimbene, Theresa Kimbrel, James, Paul, Joe (Janice), Daniel, William (Janet), Robert (Margaret), Carolyn Plummer, Sarah (Thomas) Seeke, Frank (Susan), & Patrick. 32 Grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren, 9 great, great-grandchildren, and dozens of nieces & nephews.

Earl was a proud member of NFO (National Farmers Organization), where he served as President in Morgan & later Washington Counties for 20+ years, as well as NFO’s State Board for 10 years. He was an honorary member of The American Legion. He was the recipient of multiple awards and has been recognized as a stalwart in his community.
