I am partially to blame.

I am partially to blame for the sickening, cold-blooded assassination of Charlie Kirk.  I am to stand and bear my responsibility for what took place on a University campus in Utah.  I am to own that a young man, who held his marital covenant sacred, loved his children more than himself, had no recourse except to move forward with his march, spoke of Jesus as his cornerstone, and took a hit because I was not there.

You were not there.

We were not there.

Charlie Kirk did not need a security team.  He needed us.  Men.  Hundreds of men, thousands of men, dare I say millions of men to stand beside, behind, and in front of him.  Our message should have been simple – “We are with him.  We are with the truth teller.”  The shooter should never have had a chance.

After all, are we not the generations of Promise Keepers that were called to “Stand in the Gap,” “Seize the Moment,” “Raise the Standard,” and so on?  Are we not small group leaders, worship leaders, Bible teachers, and all positions, all things religious?

So, where were we?  Where was I?

We were too busy.  Too busy, engulfed in our addictions.  Too busy, working on the golf game.  Too busy, wondering if our loafers and sports coats were appropriate for the meeting.  Too busy, pretending to be men.

We were too worried.  Too worried that someone may look at us the wrong way.  Too worried that we may offend someone.  Too worried that it may cost us our jobs, our social circles, or our political careers.  Too worried to be men.

We were too distracted.  Distracted by lust.  Distracted by fame.  Distracted by making money, the 401K, or the plague of consumption.  Distracted by the lies of pleasure.  Too distracted to be men.

Charlie Kirk is gone.  A nation, dare I say, a world is calling.  Where are the men?  Where am I?

(And) They are here.

(And) I am here.

And now is the time to get busy being men, without worry of appearance, becoming focused by clearing out the distractions, ridding ourselves of religious trappings, and taking our rightful place in culture.

What is that rightful place?  I’m glad you asked.

Bathing in the light of Jesus by accepting Him fully as Lord and Savior.  Confessing.  Repenting.

  • Stop being religious, start being Christ.
  • Stop being content and start being contentious for righteousness.
  • Stop being double-minded.  Start being of a sound mind, walking with other like-minded men who are clinging to a cross.
  • Stop being outside of the call as men and rid our lives of fantasy (porn, football, grandiose, etc.) and start seeing the world with a healthy dose of reality.
  • Stop just existing and start, only through the power of Jesus, love that wife, no matter the state of the home.
  • Stop just accepting the culture given and start figuring out what the children, no matter their age, must know and understand.
  • Stop pontificating. Start living with action.
  • Stop with the excuse-making and start owning.  Own your part in the collapse of our homes, our churches, our culture, and your life.  Own not as one seeking pity but as a warrior taking measure of the battle ahead.

Start with ownership.  Start there and move forward with the march, speak of Jesus as your cornerstone, and be ready.  Be ready for the hits.  They will come.  But you know what?

There are thousands of us.  Dare I say millions?  And now, we’ve got your back.
