The Somali invasion began in the 1990s, very small but grew rapidly.
2010s – Continued growth and diversification
Ohio’s Somali population continued to expand, with new arrivals from both refugee resettlement and family reunification. The community diversified in occupations, with many Somali Americans working in healthcare, education, and business. The state’s Somali population share rose to about 0.22% of Ohio’s total population, placing Ohio among the top U.S. states for Somali concentration

2020s – Peak and policy changes
By 2025, Ohio’s Somali population was estimated at 26,402, with Franklin County (Columbus) alone hosting 24,432 residents. The community’s size and influence grew to the point that it became a focal point for national Somali affairs, including immigration policy. In January 2026, President Trump ended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somalis, affecting thousands, including those in Ohio

Mike DeWine served as the Ohio Attorney General during Governor John Kasich’s administration. DeWine was in office from January 10, 2011, to January 14, 2019, overlapping exactly with Kasich’s two terms as governor.

Josh Mandel served as the Ohio State Treasurer for the entirety of Ohio Governor John Kasich’s two terms in office, holding the position from 2011 to 2019.

Dave Yost served as the Ohio Auditor of State during Governor John Kasich’s administration, holding the office from 2011 to 2019.

OHIO – WINS

Ohio is one of the highest-taxed states in the Country. You have to add up all of the taxes to see it. Only 5 states have City taxes. Very few have levies. We have every possible tax available.

And when a taxing jurisdiction needs more money, they just add on a new one. We need to get more accountability with all governmental agencies at all levels, or we will never have a competitive state.
