On Monday, October 21st, the Ohio Controlling Board is scheduled to vote on Governor John Kasich’s recommendation to implement Obamacare Medicaid expansion in our state “without legislative approval.” The Cincinnati Enquirer is now reporting that, Ohio House Speaker Bill Batchelder (R), “…is expected to replace the two House members on the (Ohio Controlling Board) with substitutes. One of the replacements is expected to be a “yes” vote and one a “no” vote.”
If Speaker Batchelder makes these last minute changes, he will single-handedly cement Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion in Ohio and advance one of the most detested and destructive pieces of legislation ever to come out of Washington, D.C.
- For the Speaker of “the peoples’ House,” to make such a move in a state where in 2011, 66% voted against Obamacare and for health care freedom is nothing short of stunning.
- That Speaker Batchelder has ostensibly spent his career as a fiscal conservative and a protector of individual rights makes such a move even more startling.
- Batchelder should NOT choose to make his legacy Obamacare rather than the conservative principles he has been known to uphold and for which the people of Medina County had sent him to Columbus to fight.
We urge you to CALL Speaker Batchelder early Monday and respectfully tell him NOT to join Governor Kasich in his effort to usurp the will of the people and our legislature by forcing through Obamacare Medicaid expansion.

Calls to Senate President Faber’s office should continue as well in case there is a last minute maneuver to swap out a Senator instead of the two House members on the board.
- Like Batchelder, Senator Faber is from a heavily conservative district where three out of every four people voted against Obamacare in 2011.
- Faber was sent to Columbus to stop Obamacare, not to advance it. Faber’s legacy is on the line and Ohioans should watch if he is willing to wear the Obamacare mantle and further universal health care in a state that has overwhelmingly rejected it.

We also encourage you to attend the Ohio Controlling Board meeting at the Statehouse on Monday. Our visible presence is an important reminder to those casting the deciding votes of the people they have been sworn to represent. The Ohio Controlling Board will meet in the North Hearing Room of the State Senate building in Columbus. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 1:30p.m. The room seats about 90 people and has room for an estimated 60 more to stand.
