Immediate Action Items for the Week of 4/22/2013

The Battle in the Senate

The state senate will be meeting this week to discuss the budget. The PARCC reference successfully removed in the House was a good start, but we need more on this leg of the journey to ensure that Common Core is not further entrenched with HB59. As such, we would be grateful for your help with these action items:

LEVEL ONE PRIORITY –
OHIO SENATE, Wednesday’s Hearing and Action Calls

Please join us at Wednesday’s hearing of the Education Sub Committee,
9:30 am South Hearing Rm, 2nd Floor Topics-ODE and 21st Century
Learning

Let them know you are watching and that you are not going away.

Please call your state senator http://www.ohiosenate.gov/senate/index and tell he/she that you want an “all-back-full” on Common Core funding and implementation until it gets a thorough vetting. Including but not limited to:

  1.  Appropriation item 400426 (Section 263.70) that allots $10 million for connectivity upgrades necessary for K-12 school buildings with severely restricted broadband connections (the only reason they need this is to force the all-computerized national tests, i.e., PARCC).
  2. All appropriations funding the student longitudinal database upgrade under EMIS, (Section 263.120) which will allow personally identifiable information on our children to be shared with Everyone under the sun via the new FERPA laws.
  3. Remind them that the Senate Education Sub-Committee hearing Wednesday addresses the ODE and 21st Century Learning appropriations (one of the many alias’ of Common Core) Just say NO Senator!
