In the “Wood BOE approves policy for outside appointments” article from the paper’s June 28th edition, the reporter states, “Citizens during the last two meetings have appeared before the board asking for Chad Conley to be appointed to the board at the public library. They have also voiced their concern for several books they consider lewd and immoral, and claim are accessible to children at both the school and public libraries.”
How lazy does a reporter have to be to use terms like “consider” and “claim” for issues that are easily refuted or confirmed? The excerpts read at the school board meeting referenced included passages where the phrase “eating pussy” was used multiple times and the phrase “eat a butthole” was used once. We have shown our elected leaders the picture books available to children where strap-on dildos are used to simulate fellatio. It used to be that our society always “considered” this type of material as immoral and lewd. Perhaps that has changed. As for the “claim” comment, one only need ask Brian Raitz, Library Director, or the Board of Education to confirm that these books are available to children. Mr. Raitz has publicly stated this in front of the Parkersburg City Council.
If there is no objection by our community leaders in public office or media establishments to this material being available to children, then print the material where parents and taxpayers can “consider” the material’s appropriateness. That’s how a free press is supposed to work.
In the meantime, the fascist Nazis who wish to segregate obscene material from children will continue to fight to protect childhood innocence. As I told a reporter from Mountain State Spotlight after June’s library board meeting, “My grandson is 14 and entering high school. He is just now figuring out girls and trying to understand relationships. I would want him looking at a classmate and wondering if she would want him to hold her hand or walk her home from school. I would prefer he not be thinking about how it would feel for his penis to be in her mouth.”
Our society used to care about protecting the innocent and I believe we still do. Unfortunately, most of our society remains in the dark as to the materials these government-run institutions are making available to children. Honest reporting would certainly help.
